Nik Wallenda, has cheated death several times with his wild high-wire acts. Nik Wallenda, a seventh-generation acrobat, wants to walk across a wire in Niagara Falls for the year of 2012, pending a change in legislation that will allow him to do the stunt.

New York State lawmakers voted 62-0 in favour of a bill to allow high-wire walker 32 year old Nik Wallenda to set out from Goat Island on a tightrope over the Horseshoe Falls before the end of next summer.

Despite that the U.S.A. support, the Niagara Parks Commission chair Fay Booker signalled that the NPC does not support the idea of a high-wire walker crossing over the Falls on the Canadian side.

Nia, short for Niagara, is a five month old black German Shepperd who was recruited in April to become the NPPS’ first ever K-9.

2012 will mark the 125th anniversary of the NPPS. During The Niagara Parks Commission’s spring launch news conference on April 29, the NPPS unveiled several other changes to the service, including a newly designed flag and ceremonial uniforms, along with new striping on NPPS vehicles to better identify them as police units.

Nia is currently spending time in the Parks socializing with visitors as part of her training to acclimatize her to large crowds. Nia will be also trained in the detection of explosives and for search and rescue efforts.
